This lot is a small booklet entitled “Eripainos teoksesta OMA MAA.” It was written and published in 1960 by well-known Finnish military man and historian, Arvi Korhonen. The booklet discusses the Finnish military position in World War II. It is written in Finnish and includes numerous photos. It is approximately 10″ tall by 7.25″ wide, and has 18 pages.
Of special note is the fact that the book is inscribed from the author, Arvi Korhonen, to Col. Richard Ware Mabee.
After graduation in 1940, Col. Mabee fought in World War II in the Aleutian Islands. He then became battalion commander in the 11th Airborne Division in the Philippines. With Japan’s surrender, he took on occupation duties in Japan.
Col. Mabee returned home to be an associate professor and professor of military science at the University of California, and earn his graduate degree in East Europe Studies from Indiana University in Bloomington, Ind. He was then selected for military attaché duties in Finland, and it was during this time that he met Arvi Korhonen.
