This listing is for an original 1941 U.S. Navy American Defense Service Medal featuring the Fleet clasp. Authorized prior to World War II for service during the national emergency declared by President Roosevelt, the bronze medal depicts Liberty with sword and shield above oak branches. The reverse bears the 1939 and 1941 proclamation dates, and the yellow ribbon with red, white, and blue edge stripes retains its mounted brooch and pin. This example measures about 2.5 inches tall by 1.5 inches wide.
