This c.1950s Italian Republic medal is the “Medaglia al Valore Aeronautico” (Bronze Class) issued for acts of courage and skill in aviation service. The circular bronze-coloured medal has a diameter of approximately 35 mm and is suspended from a 32 mm wide plain blue ribbon; total height including ribbon measures about 87 mm. On the obverse is an eagle with outspread wings grasping a branch beneath a star, above the legend “REPVBBLICA ITALIANA”. The reverse carries a winged female head profile and the legend “AL VALORE AERONAUTICO”. The mount is a standard ribbon loop to brooch bar. No maker’s mark or recipient’s name is visible.
