Tower of Power is a legendary American R&B-based horn section and band that has been a prominent force in the music industry since the late 1960s. Formed in Oakland, California, in 1968, Tower of Power is renowned for its powerful horn section, tight rhythm section, and dynamic performances. Their sound combines elements of R&B, funk, jazz, and soul, creating a distinctive and energetic musical experience. Tower of Power has produced a string of hit songs, including “What Is Hip?” and “You’re Still a Young Man,” showcasing their horn-driven sound and soulful vocals. Over the years, the band has undergone various lineup changes, but founding members Emilio Castillo (tenor saxophone) and Stephen “Doc” Kupka (baritone saxophone) have remained constants, ensuring the continuity of their signature style.
