c.1980 Chief Natachaman Walter Vickers Sachem Nipmuc Council Photo Business Card

The Nipmuc Indians are a Native American people historically associated with the New England region of the United States. Their ancestral homeland spans parts of what is now Massachusetts, Connecticut, Rhode Island, and parts of New Hampshire. The Nipmuc were part of the larger Algonquian-speaking cultural group. Historically, they practiced a subsistence lifestyle, relying on hunting, fishing, agriculture, and gathering for sustenance. They inhabited the region for centuries before the arrival of European settlers. Like many Native American groups, the Nipmuc faced challenges and disruptions to their traditional way of life due to colonial expansion.

This lot is a photo business card for Walter A. Vickers, a.k.a Chief Natachaman, head of the Nipmuc Indian Council on the hassanamissitt Reservation in Grafton, Massachusetts. Chief Natachaman assumed his role in 1979 and continued as chief until 2013. The photo business card is printed on photo paper with the correct Kodak backstamp for the time period it was created. In other words, it’s not a later reprint.
