Description
Original U.S. Army general service uniform button dating from 1877 to 1893, manufactured by Horstmann Bros & Co. of Philadelphia. Features the raised Great Seal eagle on the front and a clearly stamped backmark: HORSTMANN BROS & CO. PHILA.
Button is 18mm in diameter and constructed of gilt brass with a two-piece design and loop shank. This type was standard issue on U.S. military coats during the post-Civil War period and into the Indian Wars era.
Well-preserved with strong detail and light surface wear consistent with age. A fine example for collectors of 19th-century military buttons, insignia, or antique Horstmann militaria.
