This is an original mid-19th century eagle button measuring approximately 23mm in diameter. Likely produced during the Civil War era, this button features a gilt brass face with a spread-wing eagle over a lined background and a plain tinned iron back with a drilled wire loop shank.
Although it is not a regulation U.S. military issue, the design is typical of militia, patriotic, or civilian use during the 1850s–1860s period.
– Authentic Civil War era construction
– Two-piece design with spun brass front and tinned iron back
– Wire loop shank inserted through the back, not soldered
– Unmarked back; likely for militia or patriotic wear
– Displays light surface wear and minor age patina
– Suitable for collectors of 19th-century buttons and Civil War-era artifacts
