Description

This lot consists of 11 original business letters dated 1906–1907 from the Ford family of Ford’s Opera House in Baltimore, with ten signed by Charles E. Ford and one by his brother W. H. Ford. Charles and his brother were children of John Ford who was famous for opening Ford’s Theatre in Washington, DC which in turn became famous as the site of Abraham Lincoln’s assassination.

The letters are addressed to A. L. Erlanger or Klaw & Erlanger in New York and are written on Ford’s letterhead, each approximately 8.5″ by 5.25″. Several are handwritten and others typed, all signed. The content discusses theatre bookings, financial arrangements, and productions including Hamlet, Man and Superman, Caesar and Cleopatra, and The Spring Chicken.
