This lot includes three typed letters on Midland Lyceum Bureau letterhead, all signed by A. D. Snyder, President of the organization in Des Moines, Iowa. Dated October 30, November 11, and November 26, 1918, these communications were sent to Henry S. Grinde of Sheyenne, North Dakota. The October and November 26 letters discuss performance scheduling for Lyceum events, while the November 11 letter addresses the impact of the 1918 influenza pandemic on contracted performances and the Bureau’s legal position during widespread quarantines. Together they document how the Spanish Flu disrupted the traveling lecture and concert circuits in the Upper Midwest during the final weeks of World War I.
