Description

This lot is a letter sent in 1913 from James D. Barton acting as the Secretary and General Manager for the Progressive Circuit. The Progressive Circuit was a group of theatres and performances focused on “burlesque of the higher class”. In the letter, Barton responds to M. J. Berliner’s apparent inquiry about building a new theatre in Erie, Pennsylvania. Barton suggests that he should look at Youngstown and Akron, Ohio, both of which would make outstanding burlesque cities. M. J. Berliner was a Jewish businessman who was a prominent member of the Corry, Pennsylvania community.

The typed letter is on Progressive Circuit letterhead and is approximately 11″ tall by 8.5″ wide. It is hand-signed by James D. Barton. This letterhead is extremely scarce.

Condition
