Description

This group of five original photographs documents missile radar cross-section testing conducted at a U.S. missile test range during the early–mid 1960s. The images show a rocket-shaped vehicle mounted horizontally on a narrow pedestal test stand and stabilized with cables while positioned beside a large pyramidal microwave absorber array used for radar measurement experiments. One photograph shows Martin Marietta personnel and a contractor truck marked “Martin Orlando – Martin Marietta,” identifying the aerospace contractor involved in the research program. Additional views show the rocket body being lifted into position by crane and mounted above the absorber wall while instrumentation structures appear in the background of the test range. The attached photos show the front and back of each image.

The sandy soil, the abundance of scrub pine trees, and the Martin Orlando truck point toward a testing range in Florida (Eglin or Canaveral), but the location can’t by accurately confirmed.
