1962 USMC Detachment One Fleet Marine Force in Pleiku Vietnam Photo Lot of 65

This lot contains 65 original black-and-white photographs taken in 1962 by a Marine stationed with Detachment One, Fleet Marine Force, Pacific in Pleiku, Vietnam. These historically significant images document the earliest American Marine presence in Vietnam, when Detachment One was deployed to support an Army radio unit. The lot includes portraits of Marines at the compound, guard duty with rifles, candid group shots, military vehicles, sandbag emplacements, casual recreation at a local lake, and Pleiku street and market scenes. Several images show local children and everyday life alongside military life. Many of the photos feature handwritten notes on the reverse by the Marine photographer, identifying individuals, locations, and context. Each photo measures approximately 5.5″ x 3.5″. This is a one-of-a-kind personal collection that captures a pivotal early stage of American involvement in Vietnam.
