David S. Ware (1949–2012) was a distinguished American jazz saxophonist known for his significant contributions to the avant-garde jazz movement. His powerful and emotive playing style, often featured on tenor saxophone, marked him as a prominent figure in the New York City jazz scene. Ware’s work was characterized by its depth of emotion, spiritual resonances, and a willingness to explore the boundaries of improvisation. He led various ensembles throughout his career, notably the David S. Ware Quartet, creating innovative compositions that blended intricate melodies with intense improvisational passages.
