Description

Gwen Guthrie was an American singer, songwriter, and musician who made significant contributions to the disco and dance music genres. Born on July 9, 1950, in Newark, New Jersey, she began her musical journey as a background vocalist for various artists before establishing her solo career. In the early 1980s, Guthrie achieved considerable success with her chart-topping dance anthem “Ain’t Nothin’ Goin’ on But the Rent,” which showcased her soulful and powerful vocals. She continued to release albums and singles that combined elements of R&B, funk, and dance, earning her a devoted fan base. Additionally, Guthrie’s songwriting talents extended beyond her own recordings, as she penned songs for other artists as well. Tragically, she passed away on February 3, 1999, at the age of 48. The photo is approximately 8″x10″. NOTE: Any lack of focus in this photo is present in the original image.
