X is a seminal American punk rock band formed in Los Angeles in 1977. The group’s original lineup included Exene Cervenka, John Doe, Billy Zoom, and DJ Bonebrake. X is often credited as one of the pioneers of the punk and alternative rock scenes on the West Coast. Their music blended punk energy with poetic and often darkly poetic lyrics, creating a sound that stood out in the punk landscape. Their debut album, “Los Angeles” (1980), is considered a punk classic, featuring songs like “Johnny Hit and Run Paulene.”
