This lot consists of 15 original real photo postcards (RPPCs) documenting U.S. Army Engineers rebuilding a destroyed bridge on the road to Stenay, France at the end of World War I. The Germans blew up the bridges over the Meuse River as they retreated, and these images show the damage and subsequent reconstruction from November 12 through November 22, 1918. Views include the bombed-out bridge, engineers at work clearing rubble and laying timbers, the completed replacement bridge, and scenes with automobiles, supply trucks, horse-drawn wagons, and motorcycles with sidecars. Several images are hand-captioned and dated by the U.S. 310th Engineers, providing direct unit attribution.
