Description
This original 1927 RPPC (Real Photo Postcard) features a posed studio portrait of a smiling man holding a pipe. A handwritten German inscription on the front dedicates it “to Joe Bonell in memory of Osijek” and is signed “Frepe.” It includes the date April 27, 1927, and the address Kapuziner Gasse 1/3 in Osijek (present-day Croatia). Joe Bonell was a well-known dancer who actively performed in the 1930s European cabaret and entertainment scene, frequently with dance partner, Doris Bay.
The reverse side lists local streets, landmarks, and foods in a mix of German and Slavic languages, including the Drava River, St. Peter and Paul Church, ćevapčići, and the Kalocsay Junior Orchestra. Likely created as a personal souvenir or memento from the sender’s time in Osijek.
