Description
This lot is a group of 15 real photo postcards (RPPCs) showing the rebuilding of a bridge over the Meuse River outside Stenay, France. Stenay, France was one of the last battle locations at the end of WWI. It was taken by the U.S. military on November 11, 1918 just hours before the armistice went into effect. As the Germans retreated, they blew up all the bridges across the Meuse River.
These RPPC photos begin with an image of the destroyed bridge on November 12, 1918 and end with images of the completed bridge on November 22, 1918. The photos include some great shots of old cars, military equipment, and motorcycles with sidecars.
