He was a prolific lyricist who wrote the words for over 600 songs during his career. Some of his most famous compositions include “Carolina in the Morning,” “I’m Always Chasing Rainbows,” and “In My Merry Oldsmobile.” MacDonald collaborated with many well-known composers of his time, including Harry Carroll, James F. Hanley, and Harry Warren. He was inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame in 1970.
