This is a blank, unused stock certificate for the Lansing Transit Railway of Michigan dating to the 1880s. The Lansing Transit Railway was incorporated in 1886 and leased to the Michigan Central Railroad in 1887, with construction completed in 1888. This company was used to transfer freight between Lansing manufacturers and the larger rail lines of Michigan Central and New York Central. The certificate, printed by the Lansing Daily Journal Steam Printing House, features ornate typography and a preprinted date field “188_” with spaces for officers’ signatures. It measures approximately 6.75 inches tall by 13.75 inches wide and remains clean and unused. It is stock certificate #140.
