Blank, unissued stock certificate for the Sterling Iron and Railway Company, which operated iron mines and furnaces in southeastern New York and ran a private railway from Lakeville to the Erie Railroad connection at Sloatsburg. Printed in the 1890s, this certificate entitled the bearer to one share of company stock for each $100 invested. The ornate green border and steel-engraved lettering reflect the craftsmanship typical of late 19th-century financial printing. The certificate is approximately 6″ tall by 10.5″ wide.
