This c.1953 Italian Republic long-air-navigation service medal (Lunga Navigazione Aerea) was issued by the Aeronautica Militare to recognise extended service in air navigation. The circular 35 mm medallion bears on the obverse a heraldic winged-helmeted female figure and the legend “LUNGA NAVIGAZIONE AEREA”, while the reverse shows an eagle in flight above radiating lines with the legend “REPVBBLICA ITALIANA”. The medal is suspended from a light blue ribbon of 36 mm width, total height measuring 81 mm.
