Original 1930s Townsend Plan membership pin made by Castiian Bros. of Rochester, New York. The small gilt brass badge features a raised portrait of Dr. Francis E. Townsend surrounded by blue enamel with āTownsend Planā in white lettering. These pins were distributed to supporters of the Townsend National Recovery Plan, an influential Depression-era movement advocating old-age pensions that helped inspire the 1935 Social Security Act. The reverse carries the makerās mark and union stamp. Measures about 0.5 inch in diameter.
