Original 1930s Townsend Plan membership pin made by Castiian Bros. of Rochester, New York. The small gilt brass badge features a raised portrait of Dr. Francis E. Townsend surrounded by blue enamel with ā€œTownsend Planā€ in white lettering. These pins were distributed to supporters of the Townsend National Recovery Plan, an influential Depression-era movement advocating old-age pensions that helped inspire the 1935 Social Security Act. The reverse carries the maker’s mark and union stamp. Measures about 0.5 inch in diameter.
