c.1920 WWI Navy Ships and Sailors Winter at Sea Real Photo Postcards Lot of 15

This lot is a group of 15 real photo postcards produced about 1920 by the American Relief Administration (ARA). All the images show United States Navy military ships, most while in open water. Some of the photos are striking images of iced-over ships sailing during winter.

NOTE: The actual photos are a little brighter than shown in the scans, especially the darker images. The group includes:

  • It’s a Great Life If You Don’t Weaken (ship in storm)
  • Ready to carry food to the Allies (supply ship)
  • Taking Them Over the Bridge (waves crashing over the front of a ship)
  • The New Mexico (USS New Mexico at anchor)
  • Frozen guns on a U. S. Warship returning from France (ice-cover gun turrets)
  • Submerged (front of a ship going under a wave)
  • Chasing a Submarine full speed ahead (waves coming over the bow of a ship)
  • American troop convoy to France (convoy of ships on the horizon)
  • A Mountain of Water “Over the Top” (ship plowing into a wave)
  • On a Winters morning returning from France (ice-covered cannon on a ship)
  • Bound for the U.S.A. from France (waves going over the bow of a ship)
  • Ice on the life rafts of a U. S. Warship (ice-covered rafts and deck)
  • Bound for the U. S. A. (ship plowing into the waves)

    All 15 postcards are unposted and in very good to excellent condition with some light toning, scratches, and smudges. The photo #5 has a light wrinkle in the lower left corner when viewed from the back. Photo #13 has several extremely light wrinkles that are difficult to see from the front unless the card is in the proper light. They don’t show up at all on the back. Photo #14 has a lightly creased upper right corner when viewed from the front. The corners on all the cards are crisp and none of the cards are torn. All the cards have a slight curl. Please review the included photos of the actual items to make a complete determination of their condition.
