George Blanda, born on September 17, 1927, in Youngwood, Pennsylvania, was a versatile and long-serving professional American football player. Blanda’s career spanned an impressive 26 seasons, from 1949 to 1975, during which he played as both a quarterback and a placekicker. He began his career with the Chicago Bears and later played for the Houston Oilers and Oakland Raiders. Blanda’s resilience and longevity were remarkable, as he played well into his 40s, earning him the nickname “The Grand Old Man.” He had a reputation for his clutch performances and ability to come through in pressure situations. Blanda’s most memorable season came in 1970 when, at the age of 43, he led the Raiders to several dramatic come-from-behind victories.
