Ernie Banks, affectionately known as “Mr. Cub,” was a beloved and influential figure in professional baseball. Born on January 31, 1931, in Dallas, Texas, Banks had an exceptional career as a shortstop and first baseman for the Chicago Cubs from 1953 to 1971. He was a true ambassador of the game, known for his infectious enthusiasm and unwavering positivity. Banks’ remarkable talent and charisma made him a fan favorite and an inspiration to many. He was a 14-time All-Star and a two-time National League MVP, becoming the first player in Cubs history to win the prestigious award. Banks possessed tremendous power, hitting over 500 home runs in his career. He was also a skilled fielder, earning a reputation for his defensive prowess. He was inducted into the Major League Baseball Hall of Fame in 1977.
