Monte Irvin, born on February 25, 1919, was a pioneering African-American baseball player who excelled in the Negro leagues and later made a significant impact in Major League Baseball. Irvin began his professional career in the Negro leagues, where he quickly established himself as a standout player for the Newark Eagles. His exceptional hitting, speed, and fielding abilities caught the attention of the New York Giants, who signed him in 1949, making him one of the first African-American players to join the team. Irvin played a crucial role in the Giants’ success, helping the team win the World Series in 1954. He was elected to the Major League Baseball Hall of Fame in 1973. This lot is a Monte Irvin baseball card #3 produced by Topps in 1954. If the title includes a reference to condition, it is based on the same standards of grading as the professional grading companies. If the condition is shown as a range, we are saying that, in our opinion, the card would receive a grade somewhere within that range.
This card has wear appropriate to its age. It has a small indentation in the middle of the top edge. May have corner bumps, scuffs, smudges, scratches, and edge wear. Please review the included photos of the actual item to make a complete determination of its condition.
