Phil Rizzuto, born on September 25, 1917, in Brooklyn, New York, was a highly respected and beloved professional baseball player and broadcaster. Rizzuto played his entire 13-year career (1941-1956) as a shortstop for the New York Yankees. Despite his diminutive stature, Rizzuto possessed exceptional defensive skills and was known for his quickness, agility, and strong arm. He was a key contributor to the Yankees’ success, helping the team win seven World Series championships. Rizzuto was a five-time All-Star and won the American League MVP award in 1950. After retiring as a player, Rizzuto became a popular television and radio broadcaster for the Yankees, known for his enthusiastic and entertaining style in the booth. He was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1994.
