Roger Maris, born on September 10, 1934, in Hibbing, Minnesota, was a professional baseball player who played in Major League Baseball (MLB) primarily for the New York Yankees and the St. Louis Cardinals. Maris is best known for his historic 1961 season, where he broke Babe Ruth’s long-standing single-season home run record by hitting 61 home runs. This incredible feat earned him the American League Most Valuable Player (MVP) award that year. Maris was known for his powerful swing, excellent defensive skills, and clutch hitting. He played a crucial role in the Yankees’ success, winning three World Series championships with the team. Maris was a seven-time All-Star and twice led the league in home runs. He was posthumously inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1974.
