In the last half of the 1800s, the touring and performing schedules of most traveling shows and entertainers were maintained by syndicate agents who represented groups of performers, lecturers, musicians, etc. One of the most prominent agents was E. J. Matson, manager of the Grand Opera in Syracuse, New York and leader of the Academy of Music for the New York State Circuit in Auburn, New York. This lot is a letter written from Matson to John J. Stephens, manager of the opera house in Fulton, New York. The letter requests open dates for a possible performance by Corinne and Her Merrie Makers. The handwritten letter is signed by an assistant in Matson’s name.
