This lot is a letter written by the manager of the Deadwood Theatre Company in Deadwood, South Dakota to other area theatre managers. The letter requested the other managers’ presence at a meeting to discuss the formation of a new theatre circuit for the Black Hills area. The letter was typed on Deadwood Theatre Company letterhead which includes two photos of the theatre. The letter is approximately 11″ tall and 8.5″ wide.
In the early 20th century, theater circuits were a lucrative part of the touring landscape for traveling performers. Signing with a circuit gave artists access to a network of partner theaters, which could increase their profits and protect them from abusive theater owners.
