This lot is a letter sent in 1906 from S. M. Loomer, manager of the Chadron Opera House in Chadron, Nebraska. In the letter written to the manager of the opera house in Sturgis, South Dakota, Loomer extends an invitation to join a meeting of theatre managers with the goal of forming a new circuit. In the late 1800s and early 1900s, groups of theatres banded together to create stronger leverage for acquiring the best traveling performances. Glued to the back of the letter is a faded, typed letter with the Sturgis manager’s reply stating that it is impossible for him to come to the meeting but he is interested to explore the option of joining a circuit.
The typed letter is on Chadron Opera House letterhead and is approximately 11″ tall by 8.5″ wide. It is extremely scarce. The reply letter is approximately 5.5″ tall by 8.5″ wide.
