This lot is a c.1910 letter from Sam DuVries, founding editor of the Chicago Vaudeville newspaper, to L. T. Berliner, well-known show promoter and agent. The letter is approximately 11″ tall and 8.5″ wide.
The “Chicago Vaudeville” paper, also known as the “Chicago Vaudeville News,” was a publication dedicated to the vaudeville and theatrical scene in Chicago during the early 20th century. It provided valuable insights and updates about performances, artists, and the entertainment industry in the region, typically including reviews of performances, profiles of performers, information about upcoming shows, and articles on trends in vaudeville. Serving both performers and audiences, the paper helped promote shows and keep enthusiasts informed about the latest acts and talent in the vaudeville scene. Sam DuVries was the found editor in 1905 and remained in that post until around 1911.
