This lot is an original vintage luggage label from the Hotel New Japan in Tokyo, Japan. The hotel was opened in the early 1960s in preparation for the 1964 Olympics. It is best known for two significant events. The first happened in 1963 when world-famous professional TV wrestler, Rikidozan, got into a fight in the basement bar of the hotel and was stabbed. He died a week later. The hotel was also in the news in 1982 when a fire broke out on the top two floors. Thirty-three people lost their lives. In a slight to Japanese tradition and etiquette, the general manager refused to apologize which resulted in no developer taking an interest in it for nearly two decades.
This vintage luggage label has a color image of the front of the hotel. The label is approximately 4.25″ in diameter.
All our items are kept in a smoke-free and pet-free environment.
