This lot is a group of three items from the Republican National Convention held in St. Louis, Missouri in June of 1896. At this convention, William McKinley was selected to be the Republican nominee for president and he eventually won the national election. These three items belonged to C. J. Olds, the publisher of the Geauga Leader Newspaper in Burton, Ohio and an elected delegate to the convention. Items 1 and 2 in this lot are a pair of Guests Tickets for the 3rd day of the convention. One ticket is for the 1st session of the day, and its ticket has been removed. It is approximately 3″ tall by 5″ wide. The second ticket is for the 2nd session of the day, and its ticket has not been removed. It is approximately 3″ tall by 6.5″ wide. Both tickets are complete (other than the removed entry portion of the first ticket) and have no creases, tears, or missing corners. Item 3 is a delegate assignment card which informed C. J. Olds where he was to meet other delegates. It is approximately 3.5″ tall by 4.5″ wide. Although other tickets to the convention are currently for sale on eBay, no other delegate assignment cards are available. Like the tickets, this card is complete with no creases, tears, or missing corners. Our store has another item from C. J. Olds’ participation in the 1896 Republican National Convention. It is an 1896 hand-signed letter from William McKinley to Olds congratulating him on his selection as a convention delegate (Item #235599588767). NOTE: Actual colors may be slightly different than seen in the photos.
All our items are kept in a smoke-free and pet-free environment.
These antique convention items are in very good condition. None of them have tears, crease, or missing corners. All three have light smudges and stains. Please review the included photos of the actual items to make a complete determination of their condition.
