Blair L. Gilbert (1870-1947) was a Chicago-based magic dealer in the 1920s. Gilbert brought hundreds of effects to the magic world through his B. L. Gilbert Magic Company. Throughout the 1920s, he published sheets of hand-typed instructions, prices ranging from a dime to a dollar. He offered card routines, mentalism, illusions, pocket tricks, and magic with eggs, slates, matches, silks, paper, bills, balls and many other props.
This lot is one of Gilbert’s hand-typed tricks entitled Mind Reading Par Excellent created around 1920. The document includes complete instructions for preparing and performing a mentalism trick. It is an original, not a photocopy. The folio is approximately 11.75″ tall by 8.75″ wide and has 4 pages. The last page includes an illustration.
