Dee Dee Bridgewater is a highly acclaimed American jazz singer and actress with a career spanning several decades. Born Denise Eileen Garrett on May 27, 1950, in Memphis, Tennessee, she began her musical journey singing in church choirs before venturing into the jazz world. Bridgewater’s sultry and versatile voice has earned her multiple Grammy Awards and widespread recognition as a jazz icon. She has collaborated with some of the genre’s greatest musicians and has a vast repertoire that encompasses classic jazz standards, soulful ballads, and even African music influences. In addition to her musical prowess, Bridgewater has also showcased her acting talents, winning a Tony Award for her role in the Broadway musical “The Wiz.”
