General Public was a British-American band formed in the early 1980s, emerging from the remnants of the iconic ska band The Beat (known as The English Beat in the United States). The group’s lineup included former Beat members Dave Wakeling and Ranking Roger, along with other talented musicians. General Public’s music blended elements of ska, new wave, and pop, creating a distinctive and danceable sound. Their debut album, “All the Rage,” released in 1984, featured the hit single “Tenderness.”
