Geoffrey Oryema was a Ugandan singer-songwriter known for his captivating vocals and his ability to blend traditional African music with contemporary influences. Born in 1953 in Uganda, Oryema’s early musical career was shaped by his father, who was a prominent Ugandan musician. However, due to political turmoil in Uganda, Oryema was forced to flee the country in the late 1970s and seek refuge in France. It was there that he began to establish himself as a musician, releasing his debut album “Exile” in 1990. Oryema’s music was characterized by his soulful voice, heartfelt lyrics, and incorporation of African instruments and melodies. His songs often explored themes of love, loss, and the longing for his homeland. Throughout his career, Oryema collaborated with renowned artists, such as Peter Gabriel, and performed on international stages, introducing the world to the rich sounds of African music. Sadly, Geoffrey Oryema passed away in 2018. The photo is approximately 8″x10″. NOTE: Any lack of focus in this photo is present in the original image.
