Janis Ian is an American singer-songwriter, born in New York City in 1951. She began her music career in the 1960s as a teenager and gained popularity in the 1970s with her hit song “At Seventeen,” a poignant ballad about the pain of adolescence and fitting in. Ian’s music is known for its honest and introspective lyrics, catchy melodies, and folk-pop style. She has released several albums throughout her career, including “Between the Lines,” “Aftertones,” and “Breaking Silence,” and has won two Grammy Awards for Best Folk Album and Best Spoken Word Album.
