The Goats were an American alternative hip-hop group that formed in Philadelphia in the early 1990s. Comprised of rappers Oatie Kato and Madd and DJ/producer Joe “The Butcher” Nicolo, the group blended elements of punk, funk, and socially conscious rap to create a unique sound. Their debut album, “Tricks of the Shade,” was released in 1992 and tackled topics such as racism, police brutality, and media manipulation. The Goats were known for their high-energy live shows and outspoken political views, which often put them at odds with the mainstream music industry.
