Prev Next

William S. Burroughs (1914-1997) was an American novelist, essayist, and a central figure in the Beat Generation literary movement. Born in St. Louis, Missouri, Burroughs is best known for his avant-garde and often controversial works, including “Naked Lunch,” a novel that explores themes of addiction, control, and the intersection of reality and hallucination. Burroughs’ writing style was characterized by its experimental and fragmented nature, often employing a cut-up technique where text was rearranged to create new meanings. His influence extended beyond literature, impacting the counterculture movement of the 1950s and 1960s.
